We last inspected the service in October 2015 and rated the service as ‘Good.’ At this inspection we found the service remained ‘Good’ and met all the fundamental standards we inspected against. Infection control audits were carried out monthly and an overall audit conducted annually, and appropriate health and safety checks had been carried out. Accidents and incidents were appropriately recorded and risk assessments were in place. The registered manager understood their responsibilities with regard to safeguarding and staff had been trained in safeguarding vulnerable adults. Open since July 2010, Lindisfarne Throckley is a Grade one, five star, purpose-built home specialising in nursing and residential care of those suffering from Dementia and young physical disabilities. We have landscaped gardens where residents can grow their own flowers or sit and relax in the scenic seating areas. We serve nutritious meals in the dining area which are fully cooked on site by qualified chefs who can cater for special dietary requirements. Offering nursing and care for those with physical disabilities, Newton Hall has a dedicated team of staff who ensure all residents’ needs are adhered to. There is also a regular programme of activities to encourage guests to socialise and enjoy the company of other residents. Background to this inspection
A team of qualified nurses, carers and domestic staff run the home, which also has its own driver and handyman. All meals are cooked on-site using fresh produce, by chefs who are able to cater for individual dietary requirements. The home is situated one mile from Chester le Street town centre in the residential area of Whitehills.

With 55 bedrooms located across two floors, a choice of lounges and dining rooms, full wheelchair access and a large conservatory, residents will feel instantly at home. The service supported people to access local advocacy services but no-one was currently using advocacy services at the time of our inspection visit. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

If this service has not had a CQC inspection since it registered with us, our judgement may be based on our assessment of declarations and evidence supplied by the service. We reviewed the information and data available to us about Lindisfarne Care Home on 8 December 2022. We have not found evidence that we need to reassess the rating at this stage. Lindisfarne Newton Hall is a purpose-built care home located on the outskirts of picturesque Durham City Centre and is the latest addition to our extensive group. Activities were arranged for people who used the service based on their likes and interests and to help meet their social needs.
All communal areas inside our home are fitted with motion activated lighting systems for ease and safety. Our dining facilities offer varied menus of nutritious, home cooked food prepared on-site, which relatives are welcome to share with you. Designed to meet the needs of residents with Dementia, reality orientation is actively promoted throughout the home. Lindisfarne Care Home has a full-time activities co-ordinator who actively encourages individual and group activities. The home was clean, spacious and suitable for the people who used the service.
